I hand-painted this nursery mountain mural for a TV episode of Holmes Next Generation, where I help finish the baby’s room for expecting parents who are due any day – and the original renovations have fallen apart.
If you’re thinking of this totally-on-trend mural for your own home, keep scrolling to see why we should work together!
I’m the go-to-mural-girl for celebrity designers and TV personalities
Not only have I worked with Mike Holmes, Mike Holmes Jr. and Sherry Holmes on this project, I’ve also worked with Colin and Justin, Tracy Moore, Brian Gluckstein, Christian Dare, Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault and more! I like to think it’s because I’m a total perfectionist and they know they can expect a great product.
I pride myself on offering this service, not only to them, but to all my clients.
I only use non-toxic paint
Since this family was still pregnant, it was important to the Holmes crew that we only use the right materials – non-toxic paint that wouldn’t affect their air quality. This is a concern for many of my clients, which is why I only use non-toxic acrylic paint and no VOC latex paint for my murals.
A mural is safe to have over a crib
It’s great to have artwork for your baby to look at while he’s laying down (and for you to enjoy, too), but there’s a risk of pictures and decals falling into the crib and onto your baby.
Having a hand-painted mural removes that risk completely and gives your wee babe something fun to look at.
The Holmes crew made sure that the hanging light and skateboard were both far enough away to not fall into the crib.
I offer free consultations
Although the Holmes crew knew exactly what they wanted me to paint, some clients only have a vague idea. That’s why I offer free consultations where we talk about design, colour and the size of the room. It helps my clients clarify what they want.
A muralist since 2005
I’ve been painting kids murals since 2005, so the Holmes crew knew they could count on me for a top notch mural.
A mural can be continued throughout an entire room
Another great benefit to having a hand-painted mural is that elements of it can be painted onto all four walls, bringing the whole room together.
For this nursery mountain mural, I painted the yellow triangles on all four walls making the room feel complete.
Other accessories by Sherry Holmes, Mike Holmes Junior and Moi!
Along with my photos of my nursery mountain mural, I wanted to share some behind-the-scenes snapshots of the other accessories that pulled this room together.
Mike Holmes Junior built these adorable triangular shelves that I painted to look like mountains, and Sherry Holmes picked out the sweet stuffed animal heads and the nursing chair. She even made the custom lamp for baby Cohen.
All of these accessories, along with the shimmery triangles I painted on the walls, pulled the entire nursery together.
You can see the shimmer in the triangles from this angle. I first painted a yellow base colour in Benjamin Moore 2023-30 (Regal) and then painted over the base with Americana Multi-Surface Metallic paint in Yellow Gold to give it the shimmer.
Mike Holmes Junior created this freaking amazing wood ceiling, which totally made my mural pop! He, along with the crew, put together this rustic looking skateboard with the letter “C” (since baby Cohen’s dad loves skateboarding).
The closet doors were painted in Benjamin Moore 2023-30, the same bright yellow that I used for the sun in the mural and the base of the shimmery triangles.
Lastly, I thought you’d love a close up of the custom lamp Sherry Holmes made. So cute and personal!
