I painted this mountain mural in a nursery for a Mike Holmes TV show, called Holmes Next Generation. The crew and I finish the baby’s mountain themed room after original renovations fell apart for this Hamilton, Ontario couple (who are due any day).

2 Easy Ways to Create a Mountain Nursery
If you’re thinking of mountain nursery for your baby, there are two ways I can help you:
- Book a Consultation – if you want to hire a professional muralist in the greater Hamilton / Toronto areas, I offer consultations!
- DIY Mountain Wall Mural – if you’re the adventurous type and want to tackle it yourself, follow my step-by-step guide on how to paint this mountain wall mural.
Either way, keep scrolling to explore all my mountain mural ideas. I’m sharing heaps of photos and all the reasons why the Holmes Group trusted me with this painted mountain mural.
The Mountain Mural Started with a Consultation
Just like with every one of my clients, the first step to create this mountain mural was the consultation. I met with Sherry Holmes and Mike Holmes Junior on set to plan the mural design. They shared that the expectant home owners are outdoorsy and adventurous, so we looked at other breathtaking nurseries ideas and came up with the nursery mountain theme.
Here’s how my consultation works:
- Contact Me – Fill out the form and I’ll be in touch to book a date and time for your consultation.
- Share Your Vision – Before the consultation, it’s helpful if you share inspiring photos of other murals you love. Email them or add me to your Pinterest Board so I can get a feel for what you’re dreaming about.
- Let’s Chat – When we connect, we’ll chat:
- Mountain Murals Colors – Yellow? Grey? Teal? Your mountain mural is totally customized for you and your kids room.
- Styles – I’m talking geometric, woodland, ombre, layered, with trees (or without), with a sun (or without).
- Size and placement – just an accent wall, around a corner? Add stars or triangles throughout the room? What kind of furniture do I have to paint around?
- Get Your Quote – Once I fully understand what you want to create for your kids, I can put a quote together for you.
Full Service Packages
When you’re pregnant, you have enough to worry about. You shouldn’t have to drive all over the city to buy paint and supplies, get up on tall ladders and mess around with “trying” to create a mountain mural.
That’s why I offer full service packages that includes a consultation, design ideas, a to-scale sketch, my expertise in painting your baby’s mural and all the tools and paint needed. I even offer painting services to paint the nursery before I create the mural if needed. Everything is done for you so you can focus on more important things.
I’ve Been Painting Kids Murals since 2005
The Holmes crew knew they could count on me to elevate this nursery because I’ve been painting childrens murals since 2005. You’re guaranteed the same flawless, top notch service and expertise.
Only Clean, Crisp Air Here Because I Use Non-Toxic Paint
Since this family was still pregnant, it was important to the Holmes crew that we only use the right materials – non-toxic paint that wouldn’t affect their air quality. This is a concern for many of my clients, which is why I only use non-toxic acrylic paint and no VOC latex paint for my murals.
Mountain Murals are Safe Over a Crib
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard of cheap peel and stick decals falling into a baby’s crib. What a choking hazard! There’s also a risk that canvas art could fall and hurt your baby.
Having a hand-painted mural removes those risks completely but still gives your wee babe something fun to look at.
The Holmes crew made sure that the wall lamp and skateboard were both far enough away to not fall into the crib.
Painting the Mountain Mural Around the Corner
During the consultation, Mike and Sherry mentioned they wanted the mountain nursery wall to be extended through the entire bedroom, but not take away from the other accessories (I’ll share all the mountain nursery decor they created below). So my sketch included the mountain mural on an accent wall and continuing the gold triangles around the corner, creating a cohesive feel through the entire room.
Always Thinking of the Small (and Shimmery) Details
I’ve worked with shimmery paint for years and learned that it usually goes on streaky and translucent. To overcome this hurdle, I first painted a yellow base colour in Benjamin Moore 2023-30 (Regal) and then painted over the base with Americana Multi-Surface Metallic paint in Yellow Gold to give it the shimmer. It’s small details like this that make all the difference to the final mural.
Trusted by Celebrity Designers and TV Personalities
On top of working with Mike Holmes, Sherry Holmes and Mike Holmes Junior on the DIY Network, I’ve also worked with Colin and Justin, Brian Gluckstein, Tracy Moore, Christian Dare and Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault and my murals (both hand-painted and wallpaper) have appeared on Cityline, CHCH Morning Live and in the Toronto Sun.
If you’re thinking of hiring a mural artist, why not work with the professional the celebrities trust?
I Exclusively Work with One Client Per Week
Have you ever worked with contractors during a renovation who “fit you in” between other clients? I have and it was a very frustrating experience that seemed to take forever to complete. That’s why I exclusively work with one client per week, to ensure I get your mural done quickly but with the time I need to execute a exceptional piece of artwork for your children.
What did Mike Holmes Think of the Mural?
To find out, you’ll have to watch episode 4 of Holmes Next Generation called, “And Baby Makes Three” on the DIY Network.
Curious how I paint these murals?
If you’re just exploring ideas and are not ready to book a consultation, but would love to know how I create my kids murals, you’ll love being a part of my newsletter community.
I’ll share all my inside secrets on how I craft these masterpieces like the type of paint I use, how I create my sketches and the stories behind the designs I put together so that you can decide if we’re a good fit to work together.
Other Mountain Nursery Decor by Sherry, Mike and Moi!
To help you dream big for your nursery, I’m also sharing the other mountain nursery decor the crew and I created (including mountain nursery shelves and the adorable woodland faux taxidermy). We never stop exploring, right?
Mountain Nursery Shelves
Mike Holmes Junior built these triangle mountain shelves, that I later painted with snow caps. On the opposite wall, Sherry Holmes hung these adorable faux taxidermy plush animal heads including a giraffe, zebra and lion.
Mike Jr. created this freaking amazing wooden ceiling, which totally made my mural pop!
He, along with the crew, also put together the skateboard wall art with the letter “C” (since baby Cohen’s dad loves skateboarding).
Yellow Nursery Door
The yellow nursery door was painted in Benjamin Moore 2023-30, the same bright yellow that I used for the sun in the mural and the base of the shimmery triangles. It pulls the bedroom together into a consistent design.
Lastly, here’s the custom giraffe lamp that Sherry Holmes made just for baby Cohen.
