The year was 2002. I finally finished school and moved into my first apartment against the leafy Niagara escarpment in beautiful Hamilton. Oh, the excitement!

And I had a vision – a wallpaper accent wall in my living room.

Foggy confusion set in immediately. What design do I choose? How do I hang wallpaper? Can you remove wallpaper (to keep my landlord happy)?

I fought traffic all over the congested city to get to the wallpaper stores in Hamilton, Ontario and ask these questions. Unfortunately, few had wallpaper samples in stock – many of them tired and outdated. While most had wallpaper books, I couldn’t take them home to match my furniture and paint colours. And since these Hamilton wallpaper stores simply sold paint and wallpaper, they had no wallpaper hanging tips to share.

I muddled through choosing a design and haphazardly hung the wallpaper, only to find a full panel laying on the floor the next morning. No one told me wallpaper doesn’t stick to fresh, unprimed compound.

Eventually, with a lot of extra work, I installed the wallpaper and it stuck! It felt like a warm hug. All my friends and family raved about my taste. Life was good.

Fast forward (many) years later. I had a small business painting murals and just gave birth to my daughter. With a desire to make beautiful rooms throughout North America, but being tied to my home with a newborn, I decided to sell murals on wallpaper. BUT…
