How to Hang Wallpaper Around a Bulkhead
- Place your wallpaper onto the wall, starting at the top near the ceiling, and bend it onto the adjacent bulkhead. Make sure the wallpaper is stuck onto the bulkhead so it doesn’t fall off the wall.
- Match the pattern up at the seams from top to bottom.
- With your scissors, make a diagonal cut in the wallpaper starting from the top of the bulkhead until you reach the bottom corner of the bulkhead. You’ll be able to feel this point with your finger. IMPORTANT: don’t cut past this corner or you’ll leave a cut mark in the wallpaper that’ll show on the wall.
- The relief cut you just made allows you to fold a section of the wallpaper under the bulkhead.
- Ensure the pattern is still matched up at the seams from top to bottom.
- Smooth out air bubbles from the wallpaper using a sponge smoother.
- Using a large putty knife and an exacto knife with a new blade, trim wallpaper from the ceiling, side of the bulkhead and under the bulkhead. Move slowly and with control.
- Wipe any excess wallpaper paste off of the ceiling, wall and bulkhead with a damp cloth.
