How to Remove Wallpaper Tutorial
How to Take Down Wallpaper
All of the mural wallpaper we sell are removable and reusable! The easiest way to remove wallpaper later is to prep walls properly now.
Hang this temporary wallpaper over:
- Latex paint (eggshell, satin or semi-gloss finish) that has dried/cured for at least 21 days.
- Oil or alkyd based primers (avoid odourless) that has dried/cured for at least 3 days.
- Zinsser Shieldz Wallcovering Primer, Roman 977 or Roman 999 that has dried for at least 3 hours.
- Zinsser BIN Lacquer Sealer that has dried for at least 1 hour.
- NEVER hang this wallpaper over regular latex primer.
If you prepare your walls this way first, you can just grab each panel from the bottom and peel off wallpaper. It’s dry strippable wallpaper, meaning you don’t need to add water, gels or natural solutions to take off wallpaper.
That being said, it’s a very heavy duty wallpaper that will stay on your walls for years without falling off the wall.
Why Does Wallpaper Damage Walls?
If you’ve ever had experience with stubborn wallpaper – the kind that pulls the top layer of your drywall off leaving patches that need to be repaired – you might be wondering why this happens.
This is usually because the wall wasn’t prepped properly first. If you add wallpaper paste over paint that isn’t fully cured, the paint and the paste “fuses” together. When you try to remove wallpaper later, it doesn’t want to let go of the paint.
This is why it’s so important to follow our painting guidelines above.
