Prep Work

  1. Remove the door hardware, brackets, kick plates (if possible), exit device and/or door knobs.
  2. Scrape old loose or chipped paint from the door.
  3. Clean your door to remove any food, debris, old tape or dirt.
  4. We recommend painting the surrounding walls, baseboards and door trim in a similar colour to the wallpaper design you choose.  For example, if you order a grey stone design, paint a similar grey colour surrounding the door.   Dementia residents have a hard time distinguishing between similar colours.  The walls and new exit diversion door wraps will blend together, allowing them to only see the diversion decal – a stone wall for example.  You do not need to paint the face of the door being wallpapered.

Installing Exit Diversion Door Covers

  1. Roll one coat of Roman Pro 999 Wallpaper Primer onto your flat door and allow it to dry for one hour.
  2. Wet the back of your prepasted wallpaper (by dunking in water or spraying the back) and apply it to your door.  It arrives in one panel per door, pre-cut to fit perfectly!
  3. Smooth air bubbles with a sponge smoother.
  4. Trim the excess from the doorknob hole using an exacto knife.
  5. Use the tips from our How to Hang Tutorial if needed.
  6. Reinstall the door knob.

Please note the wallpaper doesn’t stick well to metal kick plates at the bottom of the door.  We recommend:

  1. Install above your kick plate and trim away the excess, or
  2. Remove the kick plate, install wallpaper on the wall and re-install the kick plate over top.
