“When I was imagining this great new space for Fashion Fridays, I wanted something that was glamorous, something that was chic, but also a little bit industrial.  So I went with a beautiful faux brick wall mural from About Murals,” says celebrity designer, Christian Dare (1:16).

Catch a glimpse of how easy it is to hang these wallpaper murals as I install on set (0:59).

The Look

As the set designer, Christian Dare plans a glamorous chic – yet industrial – look in the Fashion Friday Zone.  I install the grey brick wallpaper as the backdrop to his stylized fashion closet, including the DIY black painted Ikea wardrobes, modern rug and Samsung TV.

These wallpaper murals comes in hundreds of different patterns – from beautiful floral to tropical leaf – so you can tailor your closet to the look that suits your space.

Closet Wallpaper – Tips and Tricks

  1. Choose your Closet Wisely – Wallpaper works best in a closet that is minimalist in nature.  The more items that hang in a closet, the more the wallpaper is hidden.  A closet in a spare bedroom, the entrance closet reserved for guests or a walk-in closet where the wallpaper peeks out above doorways and cubbies makes the most impact.
  2. Durability – When installing wallpaper inside a closet, you want a paper that is sturdy enough to not rip when hanging or scuff when hangers or bags brush up against it.  All of the wallpaper murals I sell are made from a mixture of renewable wood pulp and polyester fibers, making it durable and virtually rip-proof.  There are no metallic sheens, which are very delicate.
  3. Washable – Depending on the closet, you may be storing dirty shoes, wet umbrellas or soiled sporting goods.  Remember to buy a wallpaper that is washable so you can clean dirt or rain water off of it.  All of the wallpaper murals in my shop can be wiped with a damp cloth without harming the pattern or paper.
  4. Removable – Because a wardrobe is usually quite small, it’s an inexpensive, quick and impactful way to add dramatic flair.  Look for removable wallpaper that peels off dry with no damage to walls, so you can change it up often.  Watch this How to Remove Wallpaper video I created to help you!
  5. Easy to hang – Paste the Wall, Paste the Paper or Prepasted Wallpaper (like mine) is the easiest wallpaper to work with, as it slides around on the wall allowing you to match the pattern up at the seams.  Working in a tight space calls for the easiest wallpaper possible.
  6. Beautiful – Of course, always choose a design that makes your heart sing!  Christian Dare uses a brick wallpaper to create a modern vibe on set at Cityline.  But you can use any pattern at all!
