I paint this mountain mural in a nursery for a new television show called Holmes: Next Generation. Originally airing on the DIY Network, you can now watch episode four on HGTV and CTV Life.
The crew and I finish the baby’s mountain themed room after original renovations fell apart for this Hamilton, Ontario couple (who are due any day).

The Mountain Mural Starts with a Consultation
Just like with every one of my clients, the first step to create this mountain mural is the consultation. I meet with Sherry Holmes and Mike Holmes Junior on set to plan the mural design. They share that the expectant home owners are outdoorsy and adventurous, so we look at other breathtaking nurseries ideas and come up with the nursery mountain theme.
Here’s how my consultation works:
- Contact Me – Fill out the form and I’ll be in touch to book a date and time for your consultation.
- Share Your Vision – Before the consultation, it’s helpful if you share inspiring photos of other murals you love. Email them or add me to your Pinterest Board so I can get a feel for what you’re dreaming about.
- Let’s Chat – When we connect, we’ll chat:
- Mountain Murals Colors – Yellow? Grey? Teal? Your mountain mural is totally customized for you and your kids room.
- Styles – I’m talking geometric, woodland, ombre, layered, with trees (or without), with a sun (or without).
- Size and placement – just an accent wall, around a corner? Add stars or triangles throughout the room? What kind of furniture do I have to paint around?
- Get Your Quote – Once I fully understand what you want to create for your kids, I can put a quote together for you.
Full Service Packages
When you’re pregnant, you have enough to worry about. You shouldn’t have to drive all over the city to buy paint and supplies, get up on tall ladders and mess around with “trying” to create a mountain mural.
That’s why I offer full service packages that include a consultation, design ideas, a to-scale sketch, my expertise in painting your baby’s mural and all the tools and paint needed.
Painting Kids Murals Since 2005
The Holmes crew knows they can count on me to elevate this nursery because I’ve been painting children’s murals since 2005. You’re guaranteed the same flawless, top notch service and expertise.
Non-Toxic Paint Only Please!
Since this family is pregnant, it’s important to the Holmes crew that we only use the right materials – non-toxic paint that doesn’t affect their air quality. This is a concern for many of my clients, which is why I only use non-toxic acrylic paint and no VOC latex paint for my murals. All the wallpaper murals I sell are also eco-friendly and non-toxic.
Mountain Murals are Safe Over a Crib
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard of cheap peel and stick decals falling into a baby’s crib. What a choking hazard! There’s also a risk that canvas art could fall and hurt your baby.
Having a hand-painted mural removes those risks completely but still gives your wee babe something fun to look at.
The Holmes crew makes sure that the wall lamp and skateboard are both far enough away to not fall into the crib and are extra secured on the wall.
Painting the Mountain Mural Around the Corner
During the consultation, Mike and Sherry mention they want the mountain nursery wall to be extended through the entire bedroom, but not take away from the other accessories (I’ll share all the mountain nursery decor they create below).
So my sketch includes the mountain mural on the accent wall and continues the gold triangle patterns around the corner, creating a cohesive feel through the entire room.
Always Thinking of Small Details
I’ve worked with shimmery paint for years and know that it looks streaky and translucent when painted on a wall. To overcome this hurdle, I first paint a yellow base colour in Benjamin Moore 2023-30 (Regal) and then paint over the base with Americana Multi-Surface Metallic paint in Yellow Gold to give it the shimmer. It’s small details like this that make all the difference to the final mural.
Trusted by Celebrity Designers and TV Personalities
On top of working with Mike Holmes, Sherry Holmes and Mike Holmes Junior, I also work with Colin and Justin, Brian Gluckstein, Tracy Moore, Christian Dare and Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault and my murals (both hand-painted and wallpaper) appear on Cityline, CHCH Morning Live and in the Toronto Sun.
If you’re thinking of hiring a mural artist, why not work with the professional the celebrities trust?

Other Mountain Nursery Decor by Sherry, Mike and Moi!
To help you dream big for your nursery, here’s more mountain nursery decor the crew and I create (including mountain nursery shelves and the adorable woodland faux taxidermy). We never stop exploring, right?
Mountain Nursery Shelves
Mike Holmes Junior builds these triangle mountain shelves that I paint with snow caps. On the opposite wall, Sherry Holmes hangs these adorable faux taxidermy plush animal heads including a giraffe, zebra and lion.
Wooden Ceilings
Mike Jr. creates this freaking amazing wooden ceiling, which totally makes the mural pop!
He and the crew also put together the skateboard wall art with the letter “C” (since baby Cohen’s dad loves skateboarding).
Yellow Nursery Door
The yellow nursery door is painted in Benjamin Moore 2023-30, the same bright yellow that I use for the sun in the mural and the base of the shimmery triangles. It pulls the bedroom together into a consistent design.
Giraffe Lamp
Lastly, here’s the custom giraffe lamp that Sherry Holmes makes for baby Cohen.
